Making Process of Paper Boxes
The production of hand made paper boxes usually takes the processes as follows:
- Design. Design packaging patterns according to clients’ requirements and cultural & product characteristics. It requires the coordination between the customer, designer and printing house to complete this process. Meantime, paperboard to be used should be selected at this stage. Generally, high-end wine & liquor and gift boxes use rigid paperboard of 3~6mm thick.
- Film. Send the original artworks to the printing house for creating film.
- Sample. Make samples according to design drawings. Gift packages call for visual appeal and thus involves striking colors.
- Printing. This may be a vital process in terms of the quality of gift/paper boxes. Thus It has high requirements for printing, no color variance nor blotting is allowed. Mostly used printing techniques include offset lithography, gravure, letterpress & screen printing etc. Beyond the four primary colors(CMYK), spot colors such as gold & silver are often required.
- Finish. Common finish treatments include laminating, matte, glossy & UV coating, etc.
- Die-cut. This is an important process in paper boxes manufacturing, as it determines the final shape. Accurate die is prerequisite for accurate cutting, otherwise it may compromise the finished quality.
- Sticking Blanks. Uniformly apply glue to blanks or paperboards and closely adhere them to printed or white paper, then air dry. When it comes to paper box production, sticking goes before die-cut, unlike with regular printed material.
- Assembling. Assemble and paste up the finished paper box according to the design or sample.
- Quality Checks. This an ongoing process following every step above.
After passing all the necessary checks, the paper boxes are ready for shipping.
