Post-printing Processes
While printing is critical, some after-printing techniques are also necessary for making fancy packages. Below are the 5 common after-printing processes :
(1) Hot stamping. It’s a thermoprint process that provides the paper boxes with a metal sheen such as gold and silver. Make the relief block of the graphic needed to be hot stamped, and heat, place aluminum foil of the desired color(gold or silver) over the print substrate, then apply force to attach the foil to it.
(2) Lamination. is the process of applying a thin layer of plastic to paper or card sheets of tubes to enhance and protect the printed matter. a finish treatment process after printing.
(3) Embossing. It’s a after-printing process that creates 3-dimensional, raised graphics or words by applying force to the spot locations of printed paper.
(4) Debossing. Contrary to embossing, it creates recessed relief images, sunken into the surface of the material. Debossed patterns usually carry thick ink and thus give a superior bright-color feel.
(5) UV coating. A UV coating is a surface treatment where ink printed on paper is cured by ultraviolet radiation. This application can deepen the color of the printed area, so a printed page with UV coating can be very shiny(Glossy coating) or flattened to a matte finish(Matte coating). Besides, when UV exposure is applied on spot locations of the paper instead of flooding, it can produce an metal-etching effect.
